Hugo De Bruyn


Hugo De Bruyn graduated as dentist in 1983 at the University of Leuven Belgium. He got a Ph.D at the State University of Groningen in the Netherlands and a Master Degree in periodontology at the Lund University Sweden in 1988. Since 1997 Docent and Associated professor at the department periodontology at the Malmo University Sweden. He worked in his own referral center for periodontology and implantology in Brussels for more than 15 years where more than 10000 dental implants were installed.  Since 2004 he is professor and chairman of the department of periodontology & oral implantology at the University of Ghent Belgium responsible for undergraduate and postgraduate dental education in periodontology and oral implantology. Course director of the postgraduate oral implant program and the postgraduate specialist program periodontology. Clinical research of his group focuses on factors related to implant success, effect of smoking, early and immediate implant loading in completely and partially edentulous patients in straight forward as well as in compromised bone conditions, biofilm formation and simplified periodontal treatment protocols. He gave more than 500 national-international lectures/courses in the field of implantology/periodontology  and published several national and international articles. Since 2017 he is dean of the dental school at Radboud University Nijmegen, The Netherlands.
